What does the executive board do?

Budgets

The Executive Board investigates, prepares, and approves the budget for the following fiscal year while administering, appropriating the current year’s funds.

The budgeting process for the Rensselaer Union occurs every fall for the next fiscal year. Executive Board representatives meet with their respective clubs to guide them through the budgeting process and are charged with representing their clubs within the budgeting rooms. Alongside the club budgeting process, facilities and other administrative expenses are budgeted for the Union. All information is accounted for in the Union Annual Report, and ultimately the Executive Board recommends an amount for the Student Activity Fee, which is confirmed by the Student Senate. The Union Annual Report for the Fiscal Year 2023 (from July 1st 2022 to June 30 2023) can be found here.

Club Operations

The Executive Board works to support and advance the goals of the Union's clubs and organizations, as well as determining the classifications of new and current student clubs and organizations.

The Executive Board is responsible for approving clubs for Union classification. Once approved, the Executive Board provides resources to support clubs. Funded clubs are assigned a representative, while Recognized and Affiliated clubs can reach out to the Club Operations Committee (clubops@rpi.edu) for assistance. Please see the Club Resources page for more information.

Business Operations

The Executive Board also manages the business affairs and facility operations of any and all Rensselaer Union facilities, approves the hiring and continuance of all administrative personnel for the Rensselaer Union.

Current Rensselaer Union Buildings include the Rensselaer Union, the Mueller Center, the RPI Playhouse. Some current facilities initiatives include the renovation of the Student Government Suite, the Multicultural "X Lounge", and the LGBTQ+ "Lavender Lounge".
